A Short Review of Lana Del Rey’s New Track “High On The Beach”

If you haven’t already heard, Lana Del Rey’s newest single, “High On the Beach” from her upcoming album Honeymoon, was officially released yesterday.

At first listen and with lyrics like, “I don’t wanna do this anymore, it’s so surreal / I can’t survive if this is all that’s real” it sounds more or less like a sad 16 year-old. But the track is probably one of Del Rey’s catchiest singles, more reminiscent of her debut Born to Die than her sophmore release, Ultraviolence. By pairing her signature melancholic croon with rhythmic trap elements, Del Rey creates an ethereal atmosphere that evokes the exact thing she’d rather be doing.

However, although catchy and sonically appealing, lyrically, it’s not exactly poetic. At times it even comes off borderline inane, which isn’t helped by the fact that Del Rey tends to sound like a sexy baby trying to rap.

All that said, I’ve had it on repeat all day. Like I said, it’s catchy.
